Mini Autobio Timeline Pt. 2

High School and Relationships

  • Highschool

Growing up, I was not the type to be in a relationship. We moved almost every year, so building long and deep connections wasn’t something I was able to do. It was during my parents’ divorce that I first started seeking attention from my peers and became sexually active. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was acting out because of how I felt and I surrounded myself with people who took advantage of that. I was 15 when I first had sex. He was 19, it wasn’t special, it wasn’t good, and we didn’t talk again afterward. I continued to party and act out. (see mini auto-bio part 1). Eventually, I was relocated into my fathers’ custody.

That is the build-up to my first memorable relationship.

At the age of 16 is when I had my first memorable relationship with G. Let me preface this by saying that this relationship was a toxic teen relationship. I met G at a bar, he was 19 at the time, and I ended up at his house for an afterparty. We hung out, got to know each other, and started dating. I would occasionally stay at Gs house and we partied a lot. He would cheat, we would argue, and were on and off constantly. Eventually, we completely separated, and I started hanging out with a new group of bad friends. (G will play more of a significant role in part 3).

I was partying a lot more with these new people. I ended up in a dangerous situation that sent my life into a complete spiral. I needed a place to stay and a friend let me rent a room in her apartment. I had to work full time and pay bills, so I dropped out of school after a while. Living in that apartment was a rollercoaster but it is where I met these next two people.

My next memorable relationship was with J1 (who will also play a more significant role in part 3). We met through mutual friends and hit it off. He was 21, played guitar, sang, danced, drove a bike, and was a lot of fun. He showed me adventure and freedom in a time I felt lost. His passion for life was contagious. We were both too free-spirited though, and he couldn’t stay committed, so we didn’t stay together long. Although we did stay friends.

I was 17 when I had my next memorable relationship. I got introduced to A1 who was 19 and an active service member in the Army. We hit it off, “fell in love” very fast, and got engaged. (I can tell that particularly fascinating story in another blog if anyone is interested). Luckily though, that was all short-lived, but my life was crumbling. My mental health and education were suffering, so I tried moving to SC with my mom and re-enrolling in school. I was a wreck at this point and was not making good choices.

Almost immediately after moving to SC and ending my engagement with A1, I started dating around. My next memorable relationship was with another older guy, A2 who I met through my mom. He was 24 and I bonded with him fast. He asked me to move in with him, which led to me dropping out of school again. This relationship was the tipping point for me. At first, it was perfect, but after doing everything A2 wanted and catering to him 24/7, he began cheating on me with our neighbor. When I found out it completely broke me.

After all that, I relocated back to Michigan. I wanted to finish my education and graduate high school, so I shut everyone out and that is where I kept my focus. I found an alternative school that allowed me to take extra classes in a shorter timeframe and graduate with a diploma. I worked hard for six months, earned 22 credits, and got my diploma the year I was set to. That is still the happiest day of my life.
